A delightfully vernacular hand-carved wooden mold designed to shape a lamb from butter. The carving is simple, almost childlike, with rows of small incised marks suggesting fleece.
Originally, the carved recess would have been pressed into fresh butter to create a pastoral motif; today it offers its charms as a wall hanging or an object grouping. The surface shows wear from years of use on the dairy, with a softened patina, visible knife marks, and areas of darkening.
