Peening - the process of hammering a scythe blade to reform and strengthen its edge - was best accomplished on a heavy, solid support. This example is a credit to its maker's deep understanding of the process and experience with a hammer. Today, with a chunky front support and two balancing rear legs, its form still delights as a footstool, side table, or lovely object.
